Welcome To 4T's Gun Dog Training
The Pacific Northwests Premier Gun Dog Trainers.
4T's Gun Dog Story
It all began in 2022, Donaye and wife, April, located in the city of Spokane, WA, started out with a home in the city with a small front yard and 8 dog crates in their bedroom. That is how 4t’s Gun Dogs was born! We have turned out hundreds of gundogs for happy owners throughout Washington and across the country that have performed successfully in both the home and field. Now, nestled in the farm country of Deer Park, WA, is where 4t’s Gun Dogs makes its new home. We are proud to have indoor and outdoor kennels, airing out yards, and hundreds of acres at our disposal. We are pleased to welcome avid lovers of the uplands, waterfowl hunters, competitors, pet owners, and dog enthusiasts alike. Diverse in many different breeds, and a heartfelt passion for all dogs, 4T’s Gun Dogs is proud to be recognized as Washington’s premiere dog trainers.
What are the 4 T's?
There are four values that we base all our training off of. they are TOUCH, TIMING, TENSION, TALENT. Over the years, we have found that to train a high performance working dog, you need these four aspects to your training to turn any dog into a fine hunting dog or companion. Touch. when training a dog, we believe that the way we handle the dog and the emotion and attitude towards the dog, is the foundation to how he will respond to you. your touch cannot be too soft and also definitely should never be too hard. there must be a balance that fits the dog. whether it be with your voice, equipment, or your own hands, your touch must be always encouraging the dog to be the best he can be. Timing. A dog understands a command or correction within less of a half a second. you have half a second to correct the dog or give a command if you want that dog to understand what your trying to teach. Your timing has to be perfect to really progress a dogs education. Tension. A dog is always going to look for an alpha or he will fill the role himself and that will be quite the issue for you both. The dog must understand that you are in charge. You must show the same love that your dog shows you and you may love cuddle time, however, there must be tension between you and him. He must know you are in charge at all times and he must obey. Talent. We believe that finding a great dog always starts with their pedigree. when looking for a high performance working animal that will reach your expectations, it must start with the pedigree and where the dog came from. If the dogs parents and grandparents were phenomenal, you probably have a great probability of having a phenomenal dog. If you have no idea how the dog was bred, or where he came from, and he is a mix breed, or a purebred from “who knows where”, you are risking ending up with a dog that will not be capable of doing the task that you need it to do. of course, there are always outliers, but the probability is very low and its a gamble. Always start with talent on the papers and then the dog that is in front of you.
